Disqualified driver fails RBT

A MAN was caught driving while his licence was disqualified twice only nine days apart.

Police pulled over Alfred Gavin Keevers on July 3 for a random breath test. He recorded 0.097 and his licence had previously been disqualified in court.

Ipswich Magistrates Court heard Keevers was pulled over again on July 12 on the Cunningham Highway for a roadside breath test and nabbed for a second disqualified driving charge.

Keevers, 30, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and two charges of disqualified driving.

He was given 18 months probation and four months jail which was wholly suspended for two years.

Magistrate Donna MacCallum also ordered Keevers to do a drink-driving education program at a cost of $750.

Keevers' licence was disqualified for two and a half years. Defence lawyer Matthew Furlough said Keevers' son was hospitalised on July 3 and he took his daughter to dinner where he had a few drinks before driving home when he was caught with the 0.097 reading.

Mr Furlough said his client did not believe he had a problem with alcohol, despite having three previous convictions for drink driving.

Ms MacCallum told Keevers it was “beyond stupidity” for him to drive again only nine days after being caught behind the wheel while disqualified.
