Photos feed RSPCA need

MANY bags of donated dog food will be delivered to RSPCA Queensland’s Fairfield animal shelter today.

In a business promotion during July and August, Raceview photographer Samantha Wick offered a free portrait session for pets in return for a donation of dog food for the RSPCA.

She completed more than 40 portraits, and collected 400kg of food for the shelter’s animals.

“It’s a cause that needs all the help it can get,” she said.

“They do a great job reuniting pets and owners.

“The event was a huge success and exceeded my expectations, and I’m thrilled to have been able to provide our clients with lasting memories of their furry friends, but more importantly provide the RSPCA with food to feed some of the 60,000 lost and homeless animals rescued every year in Australia.”

RSPCA Queensland’s community relations manager Michael Beatty thanked Ms Wick, of Studio Instinct Photography, for her efforts.

“We have an annual operating budget of $25 million and receive less than one per cent in recurrent government funding,” he said.

“Consequently we rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of individuals like Samantha.

“From cheques to crocheted blankets, we appreciate all donations.”

RSPCA Queensland’s state-of-the-art Animal Care Campus is due to open in less than 12 months at Wacol – to replace the Fairfield shelter.

“There’s still much to be achieved, including raising a $6 million shortfall,” Mr Beatty said.
