Hunt on for armed robbers

POLICE are investigating three armed robberies committed in a six-hour period on Tuesday night.

Detectives from the Ipswich CIB were called in to investigate after a man armed with a stick robbed a Foodstore outlet at Old Logan Road, Gailes about 4.30pm.

Police from Laidley and Gatton are looking for two men who armed themselves with a gun and a knife before robbing a shop at Glenore Grove, while Brisbane police are hunting another knife-wielding robber who targeted a service station at Boundary Road, Wacol.

There is no suggestion the robberies are linked, with witnesses giving police vastly different descriptions of the offenders in each case.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Armitt said a female employee was targeted by a man wearing black clothing and a baseball cap at Gailes on Tuesday.

The man entered the Foodstore supermarket about 4.30pm, demanding money and threatening to assault the woman with what she later told police was a stick.

The offender took an undisclosed sum of money from the cash register and fled.

The victim was not physically harmed during the incident.

The offender was described as being of Asian appearance with a slim build.

He was about 160cm tall.

Less than two hours later at Glenore Grove, near Laidley, two men armed themselves with a gun and a knife before raiding a store.

Police said a woman was at the rear of the store while another woman worked inside.

The two men approached the woman outside the shop about 6.20pm, one of them pointing a small firearm at her.

The second man held a knife and demanded money from the cash register.

They eventually fled the scene with cash and cigarettes.

No one was physically harmed.

Both offenders were described as Caucasian, about 165cm tall and wearing hooded jumpers with clothing pulled over their heads.

One man was described as having a heavy build while the other was described as proportionate.

It was believed they fled to a nearby vehicle.

A knife was also used in the robbery of a service station at Boundary Road, Wacol about 9pm on Tuesday.

Police said a man threatened the attendant with a large knife before taking off with cash.

He was last seen running toward the Ellen Grove area.

He was described as 200cm tall with a solid build, wearing a dark jacket and tracksuit pants.

Anyone with information that could assist police should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
