Veterans put win before bodies

BACKING up to play again after two days is a young man's game.

But for Fassifern veterans Joel Parcell, Graham Taylor and Scott Hall, it is a necessary evil to keep their footy careers alive one week longer, at least.

Lowood play Fassifern at the North Ipswich Reserve tonight to decide who progresses to Saturday's Reserve grade elimination semi-final against Swifts.

“We've got a couple of fellas back from injury,” Fassifern player/coach Parcell said, confident his team was on track after its 76-0 thrashing of Norths on Sunday.

The Bombers have seen the playoff coming since they beat Lowood 48-14 a month ago.

But Parcell expects a different looking Stags team this time.

“It'll be tight,” he said.

“I think that Lowood side will be a bit different from the one they had at Kingaroy.”

For Fassifern, one battle has already been won – the fight for credibility.

The team looked unlikely to last the season at one point, when it forfeited a match.

The Bombers' desperation triggered the return of old boys Parcell, Taylor and Hall.

Their return has coincided with the team's turnaround but Parcell insists this is the final hurrah.

Asked how hard it was backing up from Sunday, Parcell had one word: “Very.”

The plan was for a “light run” last night before trying to delay the inevitable one more time.
