RETIRING Ipswich Eagles president Ray Flux is confident he’s leaving the club in healthy shape after both senior teams completed their 2010 campaigns on Saturday.
Flux is standing down after dedicating years to the former Ipswich Cats and current Eagles organisation.
“I won’t be back, there’s other people in the wings ready to hopefully take control,” Flux said.
However, he’s happy to remain in the background to assist those elected at the club’s AGM in December.
Flux said coaching positions for Seniors, Reserves and under-18 teams were being advertised for next season.
Ipswich’s top side finished the Division 2 season in sixth after beating seventh-placed Calamvale 13.8-86 to 10.8-68 at Calamvale College on Saturday.
The Eagles Reserve grade team won 9.10-64 to 7.12-54 at the same venue to finish seventh.
“It was allright in the end,” Flux said, reviewing the on-field performances.
“We had a whole heap of players turn up then they all disappeared just as quick,” he said.
“We struggled a little bit with numbers and chopping and changing with a lot of work commitments for the year. We didn’t have the same team two weeks in a row. That made it a bit hard.”
Flux said the return of team- of-the-decade players like Chris Devlin and Darren Norwood would boost the club. An injection of youth in recent weeks also has the club looking optimistically ahead.
“The playing numbers are already better than what they were this year,” Flux said.
In a season where the Eagles celebrated their 10th year, Flux registered his 300th senior game for Ipswich. But he’s hanging up the boots as well.
The club is planning its annual presentation night at Sandy Gallop on October 2.
AFLQ Division 2 week 1 finals: Elimination – Caboolture v Logan City. Qualifying: Kedron v Robina. Minor premiers Beenleigh have week off.
