DEBRIS strewn across Rosevale Road and police tape in a paddock were the only visible signs something tragic had unfolded at Rosevale yesterday morning.

An evening drive for a 45-year-old Bundamba woman ended in disaster when the car she was driving crossed over to the wrong side of the road and crashed into a ditch.

The impact of the crash threw her passenger, believed to be an Ipswich man aged in his 30s, out the windscreen and into a nearby cow paddock.

The man died at the scene.

Emergency services arrived at the scene soon after, assisting the driver who had a minor knee injury.

She was transported to Ipswich Hospital for treatment where she remained yesterday afternoon in a stable condition.

Police spent several hours at the scene near Dawson Drive and near the town's Catholic Church trying to work out the cause of the crash.

Early investigations revealed the woman was driving along the 100km stretch of road about 1.30am in a northbound direction when she lost control around a slight bend.

A resident who lives about 500 metres away from the crash site said she woke to sirens shortly after 2am and was upset to learn a motorist had lost his life.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing by the Forensic Crash Unit.
