AN IPSWICH man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after fire tore through the front of his Mossom Street house yesterday morning.

Two young children were able to escape uninjured but the 37-year-old man was taken to a Brisbane hospital with smoke inhalation and burns to his feet.

Three Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews responded to a triple-0 call about the blaze just after 7am.

They extinguished the fire quickly while paramedics attended to the occupants of the North Ipswich house.

Ipswich police directed traffic past the emergency service vehicles at the site and joined QFRS Fire Investigation Unit officers in investigating the cause of the fire.

QFRS Ipswich station officer Brad Barnes said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the front of the house.

“About 40 per cent of the house was fire-damaged, but the rest of the building has smoke damage,” he said.

“Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Emergency Services said investigations into the blaze were continuing.

They also said the man was originally taken to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital, before being taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A hospital spokesman could not confirm his condition.
