Ryder wins futsal award

AN AUSTRALIAN futsal representative is one of February’s junior winners in the Ipswich Sports Awards.

Jack Ryder represented Australia in the Australian Dal Ponte Vikings international futsal team that competed in China.

Parks, Sport and Recreation Committee chairman David Morrison announced other junior awards for February went to Taela Brown, Kirsten Ihle and Erin Haines for representing Queensland at the National Vigoro Titles.

“Leann Panzram, Rebecca Foley, Alyce Jeffries, Karen Ihle and Melinda Park all received Senior Sport Recognition Awards for representing Queensland at the National Vigoro Titles,” Cr Morrison said.

“To gain this level of achievement in any sport takes personal commitment and the dedication shown by our sports people is to be commended.”

He said Sport Recognition Award winners were in the running for Sport Achiever Awards, which provide $400 to reward excellence in sport.

“Finalists will be notified by mail and will be invited to attend a quarterly breakfast award ceremony,” he said.

“March winners will be announced soon, and junior and senior sportspersons are encouraged to apply for the March Sport Recognition Awards which are now open.”

Cr Morrison said the Ipswich Sport Recognition Awards, which started in July 2009, were to recognise and reward Ipswich’s many talented sports people and their achievements.
