AN IPSWICH teacher with more than 50 years experience has told of her shock and disappointment after her car was vandalised last week.

The Blair State School teacher said her students were equally disappointed that someone had scrawled obscenities on her car in black marker, and doubted it was done by a pupil at her school.

The teacher, who did not want to be named, said she believed a teenager she admonished for loitering near the school car park earlier that afternoon was the culprit.

She said the act of senseless vandalism was a reflection of the slipping discipline she had witnessed among some Ipswich youth in recent years.

“I think the community needs to know about things like this because similar things are happening more often and it’s getting out of control,” she said.

“The students at my school are great; I think it’s coming into high school where students’ discipline and respect for teachers is declining.

“We can’t sweep things like this under the carpet – it reflects what’s happening in these students’ home lives.”

The teacher said it was the first time in her career that her property had been vandalised although other teachers at the school had not been so lucky.

Police are investigating the incident.
