School students shave for a cure

AN EAR-LENGTH bob as a child was the shortest haircut Samantha White had ever fashioned. Until now.

Bremer State High student Samantha White had her head shaved to raise money for Shave for a Cure.

AN EAR-LENGTH bob as a child was the shortest haircut Samantha White had ever fashioned. Until now.

Last Thursday, the Bremer State High School student sat on a chair in front of a crowd of cheering peers and had her head shaved.

It was all for a worthy cause with the Year 11 student’s World’s Greatest Shave raising nearly $2000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“At first my goal was $1000, but I reached that mark quite quickly so I looked to double that,” she said.

“Leukaemia affects a lot of people and I really wanted to do something to help out.”

Year 11 co-ordinator and teacher Beth Atwell said Samantha’s dedication to raising money was an inspiration to other students.

Students made a gold coin donation to watch Samantha lose her hair.

Before Samantha had her head shaved, pupils at the school were treated to some extra entertainment when a group of hardy Year 12 boys had their legs waxed on stage.
