AN IPSWICH man has been jailed for more than two months after being caught riding a trail bike for 250 metres while his licence was disqualified.
Ipswich Magistrates Court heard Gregg William Brown was caught riding the motorbike on January 13 – his sixth offence for disqualified driving.
Brown’s licence had been disqualified from February last year until August next year.
The bike was unregistered and uninsured.
Brown pleaded guilty to disqualified driving and driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.
Defence lawyer Bruce Shaw asked that his client not serve jail time as he was mostly riding the bike in the bush.
“The mistake he made is not pushing it to and from the bush track,” Mr Shaw said.
“It’s different to a person who had been disqualified and hopped in a car and drove down the road to the shops.”
But Magistrate Virginia Sturgess sentenced Brown to eight months jail, to be released on parole on May 31.
Brown’s licence has also been disqualified for three years.
