IT’S pretty rare for police to pick up golf clubs to fight crime, but that’s what happens in Ipswich once a year.

The annual Crime Stoppers Charity Golf Day is one of the biggest fundraisers for the organisation and anyone capable of swinging a club can take part.

Entries have opened for the four-per-team Ambrose competition, which will tee off at 6am at the Sandy Gallop Golf Club, Lobb Street, Ipswich, on Sunday March 21.

Ipswich Crime Prevention Unit officer-in-charge sergeant Nadine Webster said there was plenty of room for more teams on the course.

“All funds raised from the day go to Crime Stoppers, which is a not-for-profit charity organisation,” Sgt Webster said.

“There will be prizes for the winning teams, plus raffles and a barbeque lunch.”

The golf day is run by the Crime Stoppers Ipswich Area Committee.

“People can get dressed up if they want – it’s all about having a bit of fun,” Sgt Webster said.

To enter your team, contact the Sandy Gallop Golf Club on 3281 8544.
