A NEW facility has been launched to help Ipswich cyclists train in safety.

The Yellow Jersey Training Centre takes cyclists off the road and into a controlled environment for everyone from novices to elite athletes.

The Glebe Road facility is home to five exercise bikes and has training simulators for a further 20 bikes.

Yellow Jersey owner Troy Dobinson said the centre was a safe alternative to road riding.

“We wanted to take advantage of the store space and give locals somewhere where they can ride safely. It’s not always safe on the road and Ipswich has a real shortage of quality bike tracks,” he said.

“The centre suits all sorts of bikes and we can cater for everyone from a footballer recovering from a knee injury to a mother losing weight after giving birth.

“We find it’s more comfortable for people to use their own bike. They can bring their bike into the centre and 99 per cent of the time they will feel more at home and more natural riding a bike they know.”

Mr Dobinson said the facility complemented the new Yellow Jersey store on Brisbane Road.

“We’ve been working on the centre for the past few months and at the moment we’re open four mornings and three nights a week,” he said.

“It’s a good way to build a relationship with customers.”
