No new lights for black spot

IPSWICH City Council has moved to quash rumours traffic lights will be installed at a notorious West Ipswich intersection.

The council says it is undertaking a Black Spot project at the intersection of Brisbane and Clay streets in West Ipswich.

Works committee chairman Trevor Nardi said the roadworks included:

• Line marking of a right turn lane from Brisbane Street into Clay Street northbound.

• The removal of two parking bays in front of shops to provide room for a right turn lane and a passing lane.

• Four new marked parking bays in Clay Street adjacent to the shops.

• A concrete footpath in Clay Street from the new parking bays to the shop entrances.

• Upgrading of kerb ramps.

Shop owners in the block of shops on the corner of Clay and Brisbane streets are adamant they have heard strong rumour of traffic lights.

The shop owners are worried traffic lights wound create traffic chaos. Cr Nardi poured cold water on the speculation.

“The installation of traffic lights is not part of this project,” he said.
