A MAN revealed his genital piercing to a female co-worker because he thought they had a “joking relationship”.
But the 47-year-old soon discovered it was no joking matter as the woman called police.
Leslie Reginald McMillan, who was fired from his job as a bus driver over the incident, admitted exposing himself to the woman in Laidley on October 23.
Ipswich Magistrates Court heard, when questioned by police, McMillan said he thought they had a “jovial, joking relationship”.
“However, he regretted his actions,” Prosecutor Sergeant John Nelson said.
Defence lawyer Simone Healy said her client, who lives in Willowbank, and the woman had previously had a conversation about his tongue piercing.
“He showed her his tongue piercing. She inquired further if he had any more piercings and he said ‘perhaps one day I might show you’.”
Ms Healy said the conversation of piercings had come up again on October 23 and McMillan decided to show the woman.
“He showed her his piercing which was unfortunately on his genitalia and that’s why we’re here today. He accepts it was an inappropriate thing to do.
“He thought the relationship between the two of them was different and it obviously wasn’t.
“It was not a matter of him walking around flashing himself.”
Since the incident McMillan was fired from his job, is facing a sexual harassment tribunal and also risks losing his security licence.
“He made a very poor error of judgement on this day,” Ms Healy said.
Ms Healy said McMillan had no criminal history and served his country for many years as a member of the Royal Australian Air Force.
McMillan pleaded guilty to wilful exposure and was given a $300 good behaviour bond for six months.
No conviction was recorded.
Magistrate Donna MacCallum told McMillan his actions were inappropriate but he had obviously misinterpreted their relationship.
“But you’ve obviously expressed remorse about the incident,” Ms MacCallum said.
