Women's Day celebrations

TWO prominent women in Ipswich will share their stories as part of International Women’s Day celebrations next month.

Ipswich City Council Tourism and Libraries Committee chairman David Pahlke said the Friends of the Ipswich Library Service (FOILS) would once again host this year’s celebration at the Barry Jones Auditorium and the Ipswich Library from noon to 2pm on March 5.

Cr Pahlke said guest speakers for the Ipswich Women in Focus event would be Recruitment Queensland managing director Alison McGrath and Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School principal Flo Kearney.

The luncheon, which is open to the Ipswich community, will begin with Ms McGrath and Mrs Kearney’s presentations from noon in the Barry Jones Auditorium in the Ipswich Global Information Centre on the corner of South and East streets, Ipswich.

Cr Pahlke said Ms McGrath was born and raised in Ipswich and maintained a strong commitment to helping the lives of others.

He said Mrs Kearney was in her fifth year as principal of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School and had led the school through its recent growth and development.

A light lunch will be held in the library courtyard from 1pm following presentations.

Tickets for the luncheon and presentations cost $15 per head.

Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 3810 6755 before March 2.
