RESIDENTS of the rain-soaked southwest Queensland town of Roma are waiting to see if rising waters cause localised flooding over the weekend.
The town's 7000 residents have been told to move belongings to higher ground where possible and exercise extra caution on local roads.
Maranoa Regional Council mayor Robert Loughnan on Friday said up to 100mm of rain had fallen overnight.
"We're just keeping a pretty close eye on the waters at the moment, she's lapping all the bridges and things.
"It looks like it should peak in the next hour or two."
While no houses have yet been flooded, properties in outlying areas are at risk if waters rise another 200mm.
Mr Loughnan said another surge of water is expected down Bungil Creek.
"We're pretty confident we'll get by this as long as it doesn't bring in a couple more inches (of rain) this afternoon," he said.
