FOR Desley Prenzler living with diabetes is no easy feat but she has been recognised as one of eight inspirational people who have fought a long battle over the condition.

For the Harrisville resident it was overwhelming to be recognised with a Kellion Victory Medal for her 50-year victory over diabetes.

Mrs Prenzler was first diagnosed at a very young age and last week joined eight other people in similar situations at an award luncheon at Southbank.

When Mrs Prenzler was first diagnosed with type one diabetes her parents knew very little about the condition, and relied heavily on the support of their doctor who made himself available day or night.

The condition has not stopped her living life. She has an active role within the community and has two children.

For the past 25 years, Diabetes Australia along with Dr Alan Stocks and the Kellion Foundation, have presented the medallions to people who have survived the condition for more than 50 years.
