POLICE yesterday release the name of a man who was killed when he was hit by car as he walked across a street in Brassall.

He was 19-year-old Shaun Gavin Du Plessis, who died at the scene of the crash on Thursday. Yesterday, flowers and tributes were laid there.

Police yesterday appealed for witnesses to the crash on Hunter Street Brassall to contact them.

They want to speak to anyone who saw the crash or a white Nissan Tiida that had been driving south along Hunter Street.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppers.com.au.

Police said Mr Du Plessis had crossed Hunter Street just before lunch time to buy a drink from the 7-Eleven across from his home.

Senior Sergeant John McCrae said he was about a metre from the footpath when he was hit by a speeding car.

“He was struck from behind by a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road at high speed near the intersection of Hunter and Loynes streets,” Snr Sgt McCrae said.

“We believe the driver had a medical situation. He didn’t know what he had done.”

After it hit Mr Du Plessis, the 49-year-old’s white sedan climbed the footpath then took a left turn across the road before it ended up on the opposite footpath about 50m away next to a power pole.
