QUEENSLAND Health is calling on the Ipswich community to renew its commitment to practising safe sex with figures showing sexually transmitted infections are on the rise.
The State Government said AIDS awareness events at the end of this month are a timely reminder not to get complacent about sexual health.
“Last year, the number of people with a first HIV diagnosis in Queensland was 167 – the highest number of HIV notifications recorded since 1984,” Queensland Health’s Communicable Diseases Branch senior director Christine Selvey said.
“HIV is a health issue of concern for the whole community and World AIDS Day on December 1 is a time to reflect on what we can do as individuals and collectively to support people living with HIV.”
