IF YOU have seen a ghost at the Ipswich Jets Club lately it may have been more than just the alcohol talking.

The Jets club is the latest Ipswich pub which has staff refusing to enter certain rooms for fear of meeting a ghost.

In this case the ghost even has a name – Harold.

For decades, Jets staff have heard footsteps following them as they lock up at night, only to look around and find that there is nobody there.

Doors slam shut just seconds after a staff member has locked them and then there’s the eerie corner office on the pub’s top level.

The dark green office is the only place where Harold has actually been seen.

And those who have seen him crouched against the room’s corner, now refuse to go anywhere near it.

Jets beverage manager, Teresa Cavill, said she had heard Harold several times during her career at the club.

“I was locking-up downstairs once and it was just me in the building and the lights were off and I heard something which sounded like a glass breaking,” Ms Cavill said.

“I was pretty scared by it, so I turned the lights on, had a bit of a look before calling security. We searched everywhere to see if someone had broken a window but could never find anything.

“It is very freaky at times.”

The Jets club was established in 1887 and it is rumoured that Harold is the ghost of a man who was killed in a bar fight in the1890s.

Other haunted Ipswich pubs include the Rosewood Hotel, and the City View Hotel.
