IPSWICH commuters will be hammered with a 40 per cent ticket prices under new plans to be unveiled by Acting Premier Paul Lucas today.

The rise will push the price of a daily return ticket from Ipswich to Brisbane from $10.40 to $14.56.

The announcement will be part of the Queensland Government's plan to encourage commuters to use Go Cards, instead of traditional paper tickets.

Under the plan paper ticket prices are expected to increase by 40 per cent, while Go Card fares will increase by only 20 per cent.
