KATE Cook and her supporters will be glued to the television tonight as they wait to see if the Harley riding Lowood girl has made it through to the 2009 Australian Idol top 12.

Ms Cook made the top 24 after surviving a cull of 100 hopeful contestants on last Sunday night's show, and performed last night in the first semi-final of the series.

She performed a storming rendition of the classic rock track 'Your Mama Don't Dance' by Loggins and Messina in last night's show, but will have to wait until tonight's episode at 7.30pm to see if she progresses.

For the first time this year the Australian public, not the judges, will decide who makes the next cut.

She faces stiff competition from last night's other finalist - Hayley Warner, Seth Drury, Jamila Ioane, Toby Moulton and Stan Walker.

Although she whipped viewers into fervour with her stunning Idol audition with a song dedicated to her dead mother, progressing into the top 24 was no easy feat.

She had to survive an arduous few days of a capella singing, a meeting with Sony Music staff and her first performance with a live band.

While she faltered slightly in the meeting with Sony staff - which was secretly watched by judges Marcia Hines, Ian “Dicko” Dickson and Kyle Sandilands - Ms Cook did enough to secure her semi-finals berth.

Meanwhile the former meatworker told the Australian Idol website that the three things she would take on a desert island were a guitar, beer and fishing rod.

She said performing a duet with Troy Cassar-Daley would be her dream.

“We both love this country we live in and are very passionate about it,” she said.
