Parachutist in termite-infested tree

A PARACHUTIST missed the landing he expected and became wedged in a gumtree at Crowley Vale.

A PARACHUTIST missed the landing he expected and became wedged in a gumtree at Crowley Vale yesterday.

The 27-year-old Toowoomba man was on his first solo jump.

Stuck 22 metres up in the air wearing only a T-shirt and shorts, emergency crews were concerned he was at risk of hypothermia.

He was conscious when three fire crews were called to the scene at 3pm.

The tree was termite-ridden which meant emergency crews had to park a short distance away from the tree and as a result the rescue ladders could not reach the stricken jumper.

A special high-reaching ladder platform was driven out from Roma Street in Brisbane and arrived at 4.30pm.

It then took rescue crews almost an hour to bring him down to safety at 5.30pm.

He escaped serious injury and remained conscious during the ordeal.
