Trouble after the Cup

SEVERAL people who misbehaved during and after this year's Ipswich Cup appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday.

Leanne Daree May Rowe, 24, was yelling and screaming at cup security staff about 4.30pm.

Defence lawyer Kimberly Everton-Moore said the mother of three was heavily intoxicated and admitted she had overreacted.

Rowe pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance and was fined $150.

Robert Cyril Ghee, 29, pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance after police caught him fighting with another person in Booval about 6.30pm.

Defence lawyer Trevor Hoskin said Ghee was one of many people having a good time at the cup before getting into a fight.

“There was no shortage of alcohol being consumed,” he said.

Magistrate Donna MacCallum fined Ghee $150.

Lachlan Robert Farrell Griffiths, 23, and army buddy Brendan Wayne, 25, both pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance after being involved in an unruly incident in Ipswich's CBD.

Defence lawyer Adam Magill said a drunk friend of Griffiths and Wayne had been involved in an altercation when plain-clothed police officers intervened.

Mr Magill said the pair had not realised they were being approached by police officers and the argument became heated, which led to police restraining them.

Griffiths and Wayne were both put on $150 good behaviour bonds for one month and no convictions were recorded.

In a separate incident, police were called to International Players Nightclub in Ipswich to remove Jamie Roy White, 22, about 10pm as he was threatening to fight another man.

Prosecutor Sergeant Mark Muller said a search revealed two ecstasy tablets.

White pleaded guilty to being drunk or disorderly in a premises and possessing dangerous drugs and was fined $400, with no conviction recorded.

Luke Patrick Westmore, 27, was convicted ex parte of committing a public nuisance after being ejected from a nightclub about 10pm, and fined $100.

Daniel Ian Davis, 21, was also ejected from Players just before midnight due to unruly behaviour and was arrested.

He was fined $400 and no conviction recorded.
