Pink's man hits Boonah bike track

WHEN the daredevil husband of pop sensation Pink took some time out from his current Australian tour to visit Boonah, he wasn't looking for a nice spot to sit back and eat cheese crackers, sip wine and watch the mountains.

Carey Hart, the man famous for being the first person to do a backflip on a motorcycle, dropped into see his motocross pal Matt Schubring, who has a gnarly dirt bike track on his own plot of land near the Scenic Rim town.

A posse of Australia's best riders - including Blake “Bilko” Williams, Robbie Marshall, Kain Saul and Matty McFerran - joined Hart in road-testing Schubring's track last Friday.

The man hailed as pioneer of freestyle motocross is part way through the Hart and Huntington show, a free motocross exhibition touring Australia as a curtain raiser to Pink's Funhouse concerts.

“I love this place,” Hart said after he and the Aussie riders tore up the Boonah trail.

“The variety of tracks and jumps that Schuie has built here is amazing.

“The way he has used the shape of his land to his advantage is brilliant.”

Schubring, an ever-modest national freestyle motocross champion, was inspired by Hart as a young BMX rider watching Crusty Demons videos at home.

He said it was a treat to watch one of his childhood heroes ride in his backyard.

“He's a quiet sort of fella - he just sort of goes about his own thing without talking about himself too much - which is unlike most American riders I've met,” Schubring said.

“He's a cool guy.”

Hart was equally impressed with Schubring, especially his ability to build challenging bike tracks.

Schubring has built four different motocross circuits on various properties around the Scenic Rim.

“I would love to have a setup like this back home with my wife Pink,” Hart said.

“I love this whole area and it is so peaceful.”

Despite what many might consider his tender age, 27-year-old Schubring is already feeling the physical strain of a life riding dirt bikes.

His many injuries over the years have left him with a pair of tender knees and thoughts of life after the dirt bike - well not exactly.

He said his next project was to build a recreational riding facility suitable for members of the public.
