MIGRANES and stress induced hives were the reality of working life for Joanna Penn before she changed her life by writing a book about how to change your life.
The East Ipswich author of How to Enjoy Your Job had been an IT consultant for 11 years before she realised things had to change.
“In my industry there are a lot of people who are miserable and I was one of them,” Mrs Penn said.
“Your job is a massive part of your life and if you do not enjoy it your life can be pretty bad.”
Mrs Penn, 33, worked out what it would take to improve the quality of her life and set about making her life-long dream of writing a book come true with her own journey as the subject.
How to Enjoy Your Job is packed with tools Mrs Penn used to rediscover her passion.
Bored? Stressed? Under rewarded? Trapped?
Whatever it is that makes your working life hell Mrs Penn guides the reader through to help them discover exactly what it is they want and how to get there.
“I wanted to help other people trapped in a job they hate, as so many people do not know how to change their situation,” she said.
Husband Jonathan was one of the first success stories after he changed his career as a chiropractor to satisfy his love of maths by becoming a bio-statistician with the defence force.
“At the moment both of our lives are these new things and we are just loving it,” Mrs Penn said.
Whether it is a complete change of direction or retrieving the littlest things in life that make you happy, Mrs Penn said the book held the key.
“One lady emailed me and said she had made three pairs of pyjama bottoms after reading the book,” she said.
Mrs Penn is breeding success by using her experience of self-publishing her first book as the subject of her second.
With a working title of From Idea to Book, she said she hoped to help other would be authors realise their potential.
“It is so much fun. I am loving it,” she said.
