Celebrate 40 years

IPSWICH Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) this week celebrated 40 years of providing sporting and cultural activities to the public. The non-profit club has been providing the community with a variety of affordable sporting and cultural activities for forty years. The club, which was established on November 13, 1965 as the Hancock Youth Centre, has developed into what branch manager Sergeant Neale Porter describes as a ??one stop shop?? for families. Activities from outside school care to gymnastics and pilates are offered to everyone from the very young to seniors. are catered for with activities ranging from outside school care to gymnastics and pilates. It now has one of the highest PCYC attendances in Queensland with 10,000 participants each month. In the last two years it has also boosted membership by 700. Branch manager Sgt Neale Porter attributes the club??s success to the efforts of the staff and the Ipswich community. In the last two years club membership has risen by 700 people. To keep up with increasing demand since its inception The PCYC has introduced activities including aerobics, dance, squash and boxing and underwent substantial renovations to keep up with growth. Sgt Porter said the PCYC has been involved in crime prevention initiatives recently introducing boxing in a bid to curb youth crime. It comes more than 40 years after a boxing troupe first toured the region to help raise money to establish the original club
