THE Silkstone Eisteddfod has hit the ground running, with about 300 entrants in the piano and instrumental categories.

However, convenor Coral Myatt said audience numbers were poor.

"We do look for an audience," she said.

"The piano section on Saturday was really good, especially the evening seniors.

"We had a young lad who composes his own music and he was brilliant."

School bands will perform today from 9.30am.

The adjudicator is Helen Reeves, who has taught music in Australia and New Zealand.

The speech, drama and vocal sections will be held in October at the Glebe Rd Uniting Church, Booval.

Programs are available from the church office. Phone 3202 1700.
