Now you can live it up PM style on a stay at K-Rudd's house
IF YOU want to feel what it's like to walk in a former prime minister's shoes, or at least sleep in his bed, eat from his fridge and even use his toilet, you now can.
A luxury Castaways Beach home owned by Kevin Rudd and his wife Therese Rein is available to holiday renters, when the power couple and their family are not using it.
"The property at Castaways Beach has been available for short-term hire when members of the family are not using the property, as is common with many such houses in the area," a spokesman for Mr Rudd said yesterday.
"This has been the case since the property was purchased.
"There is no new arrangement."
The Rudds' five-bedroom, open-plan house had a purchase price of $3.1 million in February last year, and comes complete with ocean views and a heated pool.
While not within everyone's budget, a short-term stay in the house would provide a buzz.
The house has a special place in the hearts of the family members, with Mr Rudd growing up in the hinterland as a child.
Once married and with young children, the couple continued to holiday here and spend time with the children in popular swimming locations such as Noosa Main Beach and Laguna Bay.
In a past interview with the Daily, Mr Rudd described local beaches as the best in the world.
Mr Rudd, who was prime minister from late 2007 to 2010 and then foreign affairs minister from late 2010 to February this year, returns to spend time on the Sunshine Coast with his wife, family members and beloved pets, Abby the golden retriever and Jasper the cat, whenever he can.
"Mr Rudd was last there less than a month ago with his family and looks forward to holidays at one of his favourite parts of the world for many, many years to come," his spokesman said.
It is believed the fact that the couple owns the house is not mentioned to those who rent the property, although it would be a unique marketing tool to prospective visitors.
