Woman stabbed, man assaulted in Christmas Eve drama

A MAN was assaulted and a woman was stabbed in her arm during a Christmas eve drama in Mackay.

It will be alleged that a 49-year-old man was punched in the head and body about 8.30pm in the front yard of a Sweeney Court home after an altercation with a man who was walking past the house.

It will be further alleged the pedestrian ran off only to return a short time later with a knife.

The man entered the home and confronted a 46-year-old woman who was in the kitchen.

The woman was stabbed in the arm.

The 49-year-old man came to her aid causing the man to flee.

A police dog squad unit located a man nearby a short time later.

A 21-year-old  Mackay man has been charged with unlawful wounding, assault and burglary.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 26.

The man and woman both received treatment at Mackay Base Hospital and have since been released.
