Woman killed by gunshot
POLICE were last night investigating the death of a 31-year-old woman who died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head inside her Walloon home.
Paramedics were first to attend the home on Karrabin-Rosewood Rd about 1.30pm yesterday, after receiving an emergency call from a man who was also at the house at the time.
The woman was found lying in a bed, unconscious but still breathing.
The paramedics worked on the woman for about 30 minutes before placing her onto a stretcher and loading her onto an ambulance, which rushed to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital under police escort.
The woman was still alive at the time she left the scene. However, Ipswich police confirmed that she had died not more than two hours later.
Detectives from the Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch cordoned off the house and began their inquiries.
Acting Detective Inspector Steve Riznyk said police would treat the death as suspicious unless there was evidence that indicated otherwise.
Police believe the shot was fired from a handgun.
"Our investigations are continuing - that's about all I can say," Insp Riznyk said.
Police confirmed the emergency call came from a 29-year-old man at the house.
They declined to comment further but said the man was speaking to police.
