A YOUNG mother of two children burst into tears as she was sentenced to jail yesterday for what Magistrate Barry Cosgrove described as a vicious and nasty attack inside the Zodiac Nightclub earlier this year.
Despite having no criminal history and making an early guilty plea, Mr Cosgrove said Christy-Lee Maree Austin had launched herself into the criminal justice system with a bang and it was appropriate and necessary to impose a jail term.
Rockhampton Magistrate's Court heard yesterday how Ms Austin, 23, and co-offender Cara Robertson showed no remorse and had bragged on Facebook about being proud of their attack.
Police prosecutor Matthew Heelan said on February 25 this year the victim had walked past Ms Austin and Ms Robertson near the toilets inside the Zodiac Nightclub.
Ms Austin remarked to her, "I see they let sluts in this club. I'm going to bash you worse than I did five years ago."
She then swung her arm and grabbed the young woman by the throat, causing her to hit her head on the tiled floor as she fell to the ground.
Ms Robertson then punched her several times in the face while she lay on the toilet floor and Ms Austin stomped on her face with the heel of her shoe.
The victim was only able to curl herself into the foetal position before falling unconscious.
The whole incident was caught on CCTV.
Mr Heelan said that while there had been some history of violence between them, two girls had teamed up in a two-on-one attack.
Facebook posts after the attack clearly showed that neither girl had any remorse and included posts from Ms Austin which said, "So proud of last night's efforts LOL (laughing out loud) ... Getting kicked out of the Zodiac and CBD was so worth it ... Now just to wait for a visit from the police ... Probably just be charged with assault LOL."
Cara Robertson posted, "Good night, so proud of myself WOO HOO."
Ms Robertson is yet to appear in court but it is understood she plans to contest the charges.
Christy-Lee Austin was charged with unlawful assault occasioning bodily harm, with aggravating circumstances.
She was sentenced to three months jail suspended after one month, with an operating period of 18 months.
She is banned from Rockhampton's nightclub precinct between 8pm and 6am for 12 months and was ordered to pay $1250 in compensation to the victim.
Ms Austin showed no emotion during her court appearance but on hearing the sentence, she first appeared stunned before bursting into tears.
