University dreams come true for talented twins

STUDY BUDDIES: Twins James and Keegan Hunter have both been accepted for their preferred university courses.

THE Hunter family had two reasons to celebrate the announcement of QTAC offers yesterday - when twins James and Keegan both received offers into their dream degrees.

James and Keegan, both OP1 students from Faith Lutheran College at Plainland, were among more than 38,000 Queenslanders who were offered tertiary education places through QTAC, the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre.

James will study his top preference of a Bachelor of Engineering course at the University of Queensland (UQ) this year, while Keegan took up the offer of a place at Griffith University to study an accelerated Bachelor of Medical Science course with a view to then becoming a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

If they continue with their track record of scoring top results, they will be well on their way to working in their dream careers - James wants to be a chemical engineer and Keegan a reconstructive surgeon - within the next seven years. The boys were quietly confident they'd receive their preferred offers when they found out their OP scores.

"It wasn't too much of a surprise, but it was good to have it confirmed," Keegan said.

"I had my OP converted to an ATAR the day after I got it so I didn't have to stress too much."

In order to live close to their respective universities, the boys will live apart for the first time in 18 years.

"James will live at college and I'll live near Griffith," Keegan said.

"We're independent people but I guess what we'll miss is our chats every day - although it's easy to stay in touch."

THE OFFERS

  • James will study for a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ)
  • Keegan will study at Griffith University for an accelerated Bachelor of Medical Science
