FIREFIGHTERS extinguished a large blaze at a derelict horse stable after a pile of tyres caught fire at Swanbank at the weekend.

Emergency services attended the scene at 1.30pm to find a grassy paddock well alight at 1.30pm on Saturday.

Eight firefighters spent almost two hours putting the blaze out which was finally brought under control at 3.15pm.

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) couldn't confirm how the fire started but believe it was ignited within the disused tyres.

QFRS remind Ipswich residents to remain vigilant about fire threats in winter, and said people should ensure their grass was kept short and their yards were maintained.
