Pre-season competition in the wings for TRL
THE TRL has flagged its intention to run a four-week pre-season competition next year.
The proposed knock-out competition will run over four weekends, feature 16 teams and boast about $10,000 in prize money.
It would run Friday and Saturday night along with Sunday during the first week, two night sessions the second week before Friday night action in the semi-finals and final the remaining two weeks.
The competition would run prior to kick-off of the 2013 TRL season, which is expected to start on March 10.
The TRL is also keen to increase the level of prize money for its premiership winners.
Ahead of Sunday's TRL annual general meeting at Gold Park, chairman Allen Pyne said the league was looking to grow in 2013 after a year of consolidation in the TRL boss' first year in the position.
"We're doing a lot of things to improve on lots of aspects with the TRL's professionalism," Pyne said.
"This year was repair, repair, repair. Next year is progress, progress, progress."
Pyne said the TRL enjoyed a strong year financially in 2012 but would still be "reasonably frugal" next year.
It is also expected that Pyne will run unopposed for the chairman's position at Sunday's AGM.
