Ferling earns place in national emerging squad

THE rise of teenage quick Holly Ferling through the Australia cricket ranks will kick on in a fortnight when she takes on New Zealand A in Sydney.

Ferling was today named in Australia's Shooting Stars team to take on the Kiwis in four matches at Blacktown International Sports Park.

The 16-year-old will join some of Australia's best young talent coming through and some fringe Southern Stars players hoping to impress ahead of next year's ICC Women's World Cup in India.

Ferling made her open national debut for Queensland Fire earlier this season and claimed wickets in matches against New South Wales last weekend.

"The exposure to international competition presented by this tour will play an important role in the development of these players," national chair of selectors Julie Savage said.
