DELIVERY giant TNT Express will spend $85 million to build a new 78,000sq m regional headquarters and distribution centre at Redbank.

The company expects it will create more than 300 full-time jobs once complete and it wants to recruit from the local area.

Construction is planned to begin in July and scheduled to be finished next June.

TNT Express says the new depot's parcel-sorting technology will process 15,000 parcels per hour, up from the current Salisbury facility's capacity of 3000 per hour.

TNT Express regional director Peter Gutsche said the new centre was a significant investment in the region.

"This new super hub represents TNT's growth that it has enjoyed in the Queensland region and it also signifies our intention to continue that growth," Mr Gutsche said.

"TNT Express is delighted to be working with the Ipswich council and local suppliers in making this investment in jobs and the future of transport and logistics in this vital supply chain corridor."

Mayor Paul Pisasale said it paved the way for making Ipswich Queensland's largest logistics and supply chain hub and ultimately create thousands of jobs.

"For them to be able to create a super hub here in Ipswich is a tremendous boost," he said.

"Together with DB Schenker and, with Northern Lights coming, we're going to be the largest logistics supply chain hub.

"I was excited when we were able to secure TNT because of the size of their company but also because of their corporate responsibility and the way they care about the next generation."

At yesterday's announcement, Mr Gutsche spoke about a youth program TNT ran involving Redbank Plains High School.

"They underwent a nationally accredited training program and I'm pleased to say six of them have gone on to take up traineeships with TNT and will form part of the 300-strong workforce," he said.
