Time machine makes a show in city
IT'S TRAVELLED across the universe and through time, but the TARDIS is stopping in Ipswich; at least for a few days.
One of the icons of science fiction, Doctor Who's time and space travelling police box is currently inside the Old Flour Mill on Brisbane St as part of the Inventors' Fair on Thursday night.
The fair is running in conjunction with the Gaslight Parade running through the Top of Town at the same time.
The imposing 2.5m tall blue phone booth is outside the Cassandra's Closet and Under the Stairs inside the Old Flour Mill.
Playing noises straight out of the TV show, the TARDIS is a replica of the booths used on the show.
Cassandra's Closet owner Cassandra Booth said the TARDIS had already attracted fans of the show from across the area.
"We've had a fair few people who've come to take their photo and put it straight on Facebook," she said.
The TARDIS will be the headline attraction of the Inventor's Fair and the Steam punk Markets on Thursday night.
"Doctor Who and the TARDIS are a bit of a uniting factor," Ms Booth said.
"There are people who might not be interested in the other steam punk things that will be on but will come for the TARDIS.
"The show is on in prime time these; there are so many kids who just love it as well as adult fans.
"My boys love it; they're both big Doctor Who fans. It's the type of show that really crosses generations."
Ms Booth said they are calling for people to dress in their favourite Doctor Who or Victorian era clothing for a flash mob freeze at the Old Flour Mill at 5pm on Friday.
Alongside the TARDIS Thursday night's fair will see a range of science fiction attractions including Ghostbusters inspired proton packs and steam punk and children's author Ged Maybury.
Ms Booth said she is hoping to bring Dalek costumes to the next Inventors' Fair.
