A kind donation
TEARS started to well in the eyes of carer Lita Lilo when a special package for her 91-year-old paraplegic mother arrived on the doorstep of their Slacks Creek home.
The package was an automatic hospital bed for her ill mother, and came from members of the Rochedale/Springwood and Mount Gravatt Lions Clubs.
"We are always there to offer assistance to those who need it."
As she watched them unload the bed from the trailer, Ms Lilo said she still couldn't believe the generosity of the clubs.
"I am really pleased the bed is here, because it is going to help my mum," she said.
"At 91, my mum who is paraplegic has been bed-bound for the past 17 years.
"With this new bed, she will be able to sit up and we will be able to care for her better."
President of the Rochedale/Springwood Lions Keith Yule said he learnt of the need for a bed for Ms Lilo's mother after she put in a call to Anglicare Southern Queensland saying she desperately needed help.
After a few quick calls, both the Rochedale/Springwood and Mount Gravatt Lions had purchased a bed from Apple Maq, a charity which distributes old hospital beds to those in need both throughout Queensland and the Pacific.
Mr Yule said the two clubs were glad they could help.
"Anglicare Southern Queensland contacted us and asked if we could help fund a bed, which we were more than happy to do," Mr Yule said.
"So we got in contact with Apple Maq where we made a donation to the centre to receive the bed to give to Lita's mother.
"It makes us feel really happy that we were able to help a fellow resident in their time of need.
"Not many people know what we as a club do, but this is exactly the sort of thing that drives us.
"We are always there to offer assistance to those who need it."
With the help from Meyers Removals at Kingston, the men were able to build the bed for a very happy Lita and her mother.
