Sydney Harbour boating death prompts police warning this NYE

THE death of a mother at Sydney Harbour has sparked a police warning about the dangers of drinking on boats during the party season.

A 49-year-old woman was celebrating with her husband and two children aboard a luxury yacht on Sunday night when she went missing.

Her body was found at a Rosebay jetty on Monday morning.

Police have confirmed the woman had been drinking alcohol before she fell overboard.

While he would not comment on how much the woman had to drink, Detective Inspector Darren Schott said the tragedy was a reminder that "boating and alcohol don't mix".

The Homicide Squad is investigating as a matter of procedure.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
