Suspicious fires destroy two homes

POLICE are investigating two suspicious fires which completely destroyed houses at Riverview and Deebing Heights on Saturday.

About 2.15pm officers were called to the Old Ipswich Rd address where they arrived to find an unoccupied house completely ablaze.

Senior Sergeant Robbie Goodger said the house didn't have electricity supplied to it and had been used by squatters.

He said the squatters may have left a fire burning or not extinguished a cigarette which may have started the blaze.

The Scenes of Crime unit was investigating the incident and the owner of the house was yet to be contacted.

Overgrown grass surrounding the property didn't catch alight, and all that was left outside the dwelling was a burnt-out Hills Hoist clothesline.

At 6pm police received reports of a house fire on Grampian Dr at Deebing Heights.

Both buildings were destroyed and no one was injured during the incidents.

The fires are being treated as suspicious while investigations continue.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
