Would you like some foam with your coastal coffee rock?

Big seas have whipped up foam at the coffee rocks at Mooloolaba.

BIG seas have whipped up more foam off Sunshine Coast beaches - but it's not the sort that anyone will be driving cars through.

At high tide, foamy waves have been crashing into the coffee rocks at Mooloolaba providing a great opportunity for photographers keen enough to brave the rain.

Today, there was even a glimmer of sunshine - for about two minutes - before it started raining again.

Along Mooloolaba Esplanade, shopkeepers were probably hoping for a return of the foam in its full glory to bring out the sightseers.

Last month, hundreds of locals and tourists scrambled down to Alexandra Headland to see foam all across the road.

Alexandra Parade had to be closed after it was covered up.

The most spectacular images came when Michael Bell captured a video of a car emerging from the foam and narrowly avoiding two police officers.

The video, posted on Facebook, attracted more than 50,000 views in just days.

But this week's foam is not nearly as spectacular.

And the miserable weather has seen only a few people braving the elements to check out the surf or walk along the beach.

The big swell, however, has brought out plenty of bodyboarders and surfers keen to make the most of the almost barrel -like conditions.

Most of the beaches remained closed on the Coast due to the big seas - and erosion.

Numerous beach accesses are closed with the surf stripping metres of sand from underneath concrete slabs and stairways.

Shopkeepers say they are hoping for a return of some good weather to bring back the visitors and locals down to the beach.

But with the weather bureau tipping more rain on Friday, the outlook for retailers doesn't look great.
