Some exclusions from strategic cropping land to be made

AFTER putting in new rules to ensure farm land was protected from mining activities, the Queensland Government will now make a few exceptions.

Mines Minister Andrew Cripps said on Thursday some exclusions from the State's "strategic cropping land" would be made for certain areas either not ideal for cropping or being used for another purpose.

Under the Strategic Cropping Land plans, any activity not considering farming needs specific approval.

These changes mean that those already established or operating on less-than-bountiful lands would be saved the hassle.

It includes the gemfields of Central Queensland, a move that would allow fossickers to scour for gems without having to wade through red tape.

Other infrastructure including airports, dams, power stations mine pits would be noted as not being in breach of the cropping rules, as would piggeries or poultry producers.

More information is available online, best found by putting 'Queensland strategic cropping land' into a search engine.
