THE introduction of a temporary local planning instrument for the Sippy Downs Town Centre will stimulate economic development and jobs growth on the Sunshine Coast. So says local councillor Christian Dickson.

"The purpose of the TLPI is to kick-start development of the Sippy Downs Town Centre, including the Business and Technology Park," Cr Dickson said.

"Council has facilitated this new process in response to the tough economic climate and the resulting lack of development happening at the town centre.

"Mixed uses are intended for the area including residential, commercial and retail and supporting the development of these uses is a priority for council.

"Proposed developments for the town centre that are consistent with the intended uses will be assessed accordingly - minus the red tape.

"Land use planning controls that were in place were effectively restricting development and council has developed a solution to promote prosperity for the region.

"Landowners were advised of the changes on the day the TLPI was gazetted - now we're ready to see development applications start flowing in.

"I encourage all potential developers to get expert advice early and utilise council's free pre-lodgement service before submitting a development application.

"Council's doing all it can to support the development industry, stimulate the economy, encourage investor confidence and create jobs for locals."
