Shannon's back in the saddle

SHANNON Noll closed the first night of the Gympie Muster with a rocking show on Thursday night.

Speaking to The Gympie Times backstage before his show, the singer songwriter said it felt good to be back performing with a full band.

"I haven't toured with the full band in a few years," he said.

"I've done a lot of acoustic runs, but now it's just full rock star. I hope it goes down ok."

Noll's 75-minute show went down more than just "ok", with the crowd responding well to the new songs off his latest album A Million Suns.

His commitment to the latest series of Dancing With The Stars, and the back injury he suffered during rehearsals for the show, delayed his current national tour for the album.

Noll is nearly halfway through the massive five-month tour, and is about to add several WA shows to the itinerary.

"The shows are going really well," Noll said.

"Everyone seems to be liking them and we're getting good numbers too, which is the best thing. Fingers crossed it keeps going well.

"I'm having a great time, and the band's really cooking at the moment. They're really playing well, but I don't want to hex them (laughs)."

The father of three said concert-goers have been responding particularly well to the first single from the album, Switch Me On, which he co-wrote with Good Charlotte's Benji Madden.

"We had that idea up and running a little bit and he came in and just killed it," he said.

"It was great fun writing with him. He's such a talented guy, so inspiring to work with and so enthusiastic."

A Million Suns is perhaps Noll's most energetic album to date.

"I wrote the new album with the touring in mind," he said.

"For some reason, most of the people I talk to who I write with say it's really hard to write up-tempo songs but we've got a good bunch of up-tempo ones (on this album) and some party ones too."
