SHANNON Noll has found his voice.

He's finally on the road promoting his latest album, A Million Suns, after being forced to delay the tour to appear on Dancing with the Stars and further delays due to a related injury.

And he's evolved as a singer-songwriter with an exciting new sound.

It's old news now, but Noll told The Gympie Times he put his back out lifting his dance partner, which ended his time on the show.

Noll is the headlining act at the Gympie Optus Music Muster tonight and he's pumped. He expects to connect with his audience on many different levels this year.

He's been on the bill a couple of times before so he knows it will be a good atmosphere.

"The Muster crowd is amazing," he said.

"It gives the festival a real good vibe. It's also good to catch up with other musicians on the road."

Before Dancing with the Stars, Noll teamed up with Benji Madden of Good Charlotte to write two tracks, Switch Me On and Believe It, described as "rock pop with an edge".

He said country music fans would particularly appreciate a couple of tracks on his fifth and latest album, A Million Suns, released late last year.

"There are a few songs on the album with a country flavour. I think they'll like Long Way Home. It's got a lonely vibe about it.

"A Million Suns (title song) has a bit of a Traveling Wilburys feel."

Noll is nearly two months into his Australian tour, which includes 45 shows around the country before finishing up in November.

He's come a long way since he was named runner-up of the first series of Australian Idol in 2003.

"After this amount of time, I've learned how to use my voice properly," he said.

"My songs are better crafted. The more songwriting I do, the better I get at it.
