Rush on solar before rebate change

HUNDREDS of homeowners rushed to take advantage of the generous solar power rebate before it was scrapped on Monday night.

The Queensland Government announced last month a plan to reduce the solar power rebate from 44 cents per kilowatt hour to 8 c/kW.

Existing solar power customers will be entitled to stay on the 44 c/kW rate until 2028.

Energy Matters reported a very busy weekend in the lead-up to Monday night's deadline with telephone lines running hot accomodating the last-minute rush.

In an online statement, the company predicted the final spike in solar customers would give installers enough work for a few months.
