KATIE Smith's boyfriend can't believe his luck.

"Look at how beautiful she is," he said.

"I didn't think I'd meet a girl like that on the internet."

Rob Scott met Katie on the internet dating site Plenty of Fish last year.

Now, the loved-up couple are living together in Gladstone.

Although both hoped to find someone special when joining up, neither actually expected to fall in love.

In fact, love was the last thing on Katie's mind.

"I was getting out of a really bad relationship at the time," she said. "I was completely heart-broken."

"My friends convinced me to join up to get my confidence back."

It is advice Katie is glad to have followed.

"If you've never tried internet dating before, it's really good for a laugh and a confidence boost," she said.

"It's all about the girls on there. The guys really do go fishing and the girls just sit back and relax."

Since finding love in a regional area can be tricky APN Australian Regional Media, publishers of The Gladstone Observer, have launched a dedicated online dating website qdating.com.au

Qdating offers a free service for like-minded, regional singles to get in touch, in a safe and secure environment.

Users engage on the site, not over private email.

One of the features which sets the site apart from other online dating sites is First Impressions, a speed dating-style system which will automatically match you with another member so you can engage in a two-minute conversation.

The site boasts other user-friendly features which helps you find like-minded singles much more efficiently.

Success stories are already mounting, with one happy couple posting on the site: "After chatting for a while we decided to meet at our local dog park and had an instant connection. We had both been hurt from previous relationships so wanted to take it slow, but fate had another story in mind. We feel madly in love with each other after a couple of months! From the day we first met in September 2011 we have been totally inseparable and are now engaged for the first times in both our lives."

Qdating is managed using the Oasis Active Network, which attracts almost 4.8 million visits worldwide and has more than 900,000 users. Qdating is another facet to the ever-growing APN ARM portfolio of websites including gladstoneobserver .com.au.

The APN ARM network has evolved in the past 12 months, with a 30% growth in audience to 1.1 million unique browsers, to which it now delivers more than 11 million page impressions each month.

The network of 27 sites has the largest community reach of regional Queensland and northern NSW.
