Reserves are pride of Lions

THE Brisbane Lions may have missed out on playing finals, but the club's reserves grade team has gone all the way, taking out the NEAFL northern conference grand final by beating the NT Thunder 21.8 (134) to 10.14 (74).

Claye Beams, a NAB Rising Star nominee with the Lions, won the Joe Grant medal for best-on-ground after having 33 disposals, six tackles and four goals.

Jordan Lisle finished with five goals while Amon Buchanan, who announced his retirement from the AFL last week, also played well.

The premiership completed a remarkable turnaround after the team won the wooden spoon last season.

The Lions will play eastern conference winner Queanbeyan in the inter-conference grand final.
